Figures & masks

Every piece, one at a time. No moulds, no runs, no two alike.

— The craft —

There are no moulds and no assembly lines in the Desquiciados workshop. Recycled paper becomes papier-mâché, the shape is modelled by hand and the colour is decided piece by piece. That is why every figure and every mask is unique and, once one finds an owner, it is never made the same way again.

— The Cursed Cabinet —

Papier-mâché figures

The inhabitants of Villaoscura with a body and a face of their own, modelled by hand, their texture and expression decided one at a time. This is where the bestiary stops being a story someone told you and plants itself on a shelf.

Forest witches, plague doctors and the dead who never quite leave share the workshop with the monsters that arrived from horror cinema.

Papier-mâché masks

Every mask starts from nothing, with no mould to repeat it. They do not hide a face: they show the one underneath. They are the slowest pieces we make and the ones that come closest to literal testimony.

Some details, like eyes and scars, are worked in resin and pigment until they reach the exact translucency of something weeping from within.

— The process —

How a piece is born

I

Paper born again

It all starts with 100% recycled paper, brought back to life as papier-mâché.

II

Modelled by hand

Every shape, every gesture and every texture is built up layer by layer.

III

Painted until it looks back

We colour it by hand, taking our time, until it returns our gaze.

Cotton bags

What will not fit on a shelf goes out into the street. Cotton bags carrying our own illustrations: the creatures of Villaoscura, printed onto fabric.

No one-of-a-kind claims here: a bag is for using, loading and wearing out. They are the only thing we repeat and, for that reason, the only thing you can take out of the house without fear of breaking it.
