About us

Craft born in the dark, in a village hidden somewhere in Spain.

— Villaoscura —

Behind every mask and every figure there are two people, a workshop and a village wrapped in fog. This is our story.

— Who we are —

Villaoscura, a world of our own

Where the fog blurs the real into the imagined live Desquiciados, also known by their human names: Laura and Javi.

We are a craft project born out of a shared fascination with horror stories, impossible creatures and the characters that dwell in the shadows.

What began as a way of making things without limits turned into a world of its own: Villaoscura. Witches, plague doctors, wandering spirits and creatures of the woods share this corner, all of it steeped in classic horror. We never set out to fit in; we exist to offer unique pieces you will not find anywhere else.

We are not only a workshop; we are something to look at.

We stand up for the beauty of the dark. Every piece is modelled and painted by hand, one by one, because we believe objects can tell stories too. And Villaoscura still has plenty left to tell.

Old legends and modern nightmares

Villaoscura and the land around it are shaped by mystery. Its close woods, valleys and rivers are the living stage of a folklore where the inexplicable has always been part of ordinary life. Much of what Desquiciados is comes out of that half-light.

Our world does not stop at local legend, though. We draw just as hard on horror cinema, on classic and contemporary genre writing, and on the whole culture that surrounds the macabre and the fantastic.

Our pieces are where those two worlds meet. In them the witches and the spirits of the woods keep company with the monsters, demons and creatures born out of the pages and the screens that captivated us early. We give shape to ancient myth and to modern nightmare alike, building a world where benign and malign beings live side by side.

The art of a second life

We keep well away from mass production so we can concentrate on the detail, the texture and the atmosphere of each piece. For us the dark is not a negative; it is an endless canvas. On that footing we offer an artistic, transgressive take on pop and underground culture, for anyone who has never felt ordinary.

We believe making is also transforming. That is why our work avoids the disposable and rests on recycling and on materials that respect their surroundings. We love rescuing what others throw away and giving it a new existence through art; it is our way of returning the balance to the land, and of showing that nothing really disappears — it only turns into a new story.

What we stand on

Made by hand

No machinery, no assembly line: only hands, time and patience.

Recycled paper

The paper others throw out comes back as a creature.

One of a kind

No moulds, no copies: every object comes out different.

The dark can be beautiful too; you only have to look at it long enough.
